An open house for the new-formed Rajahmundry Stake, Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, India, was held for the community on Saturday, May 13th 2017. The Rajamundry Stake is the third Stake formed in India after the Bengaluru Stake and Hyderabad Stake.
On Friday, May 12th, 2017, a gathering of reporters from several news outlets in Rajahmundry came to the Rajahmundry Stake Center for a press release and interview with the new-called Stake President, Prasad Badireddy. This was followed by light refreshments and preparations for the next day.
Approximately 240 people and 60 volunteers took part in the open house. VIPs from the Rajahmundry community including Sri Murali Mohan, Member of Parliment (MP), Rajahmundry Constituency graced the open house with their presence.
"I feel that worshipping the Lord requires a nice atmosphere and here in this church I have felt and witnessed all that is required," MP Mohan said.
A welcomed visit was also made by the honorable Harsha Kumar, a former MP of Rajahmundry and lifetime resident of the growing community in southern India. Other government dignitaries, community leaders and church leaders also attended.
Special presentations were made by volunteers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the areas of Primary (children up to 12 years of age), Young Women & Young Men (youth 12-18 years of age), Relief Society (women older than 18 years of age), Melchizedek Priesthood (men older than 18 years of age), YSA (Single Adults 18-31 years of age) and a room highlighting certain beliefs of the LDS church centered in the life, mission and atonement of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world and His restored gospel, authority and church.
The honorable Ganni Krishna, TDP leader in Rajahmundry, also attended the open house. The events of the day were properly summed up in his parting comment; "Serivce to man is service to God", he said. This statement is certainly shared by members of the Rajahmundry Stake and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who regularly volunteer their time and energy to the community.
