The Young Single Adults (YSA) along with youth aged 12-18 from the New Delhi 2nd and 3rd congregations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worked together to beautify a community park located close to the New Delhi mission home and office.
The community council of Vasant Vihar had been contacted by the public affairs missionaries to see how the YSA could help serve in the neighborhood. The youth responded with enthusiasm and completed an excellent service to the people in the area. The park has been beautified and many will enjoy it.
Over 40 YSA and youth joined with their leaders to pull weeds, trim bushes, sweep, load the debris for removal and work. Many had not had the opportunity to do garden work before, since they live in the large city of Delhi, and it was a rewarding experience. Several expressed the desire to “do it again”. It was thrilling to see the many yellow Helping Hands vests spread throughout the park as the youth, along with missionaries, worked together.

President Stanley, leader of the 3rd branch congregation, joined with other leaders in cleaning out an area filled with tall grass, weeds and broken trees. He was very happy with the good works the youth were doing.
“I learned how to work in the garden. It was not an easy job but it was really nice and I enjoyed it a lot” said Ishitka, a member of the 3rd branch congregation’s young women group (girls aged 12-18).
For members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, service is an important part of life. Throughout the world, members individually or jointly reach out to help others. Responding to disasters or quietly helping a neighbor, people of the Mormon faith show their love for God and others by acts of service wherever they are living.
President Katuka, the leader of the 2nd branch congregation said “It was successful. Wonderful! We loved it.” Everyone agreed that it feels good to give of time and service to another. And when you are doing it with friends, all the more fun.
